Enter the certificate number in OEKO-TEX Label Check on oeko-tex.com. Check the product class (Class I for baby, II for skin contact), the certified products and the expiry date — STANDARD 100 certificates are valid for one year and certify products, not factories.

The four product classes

Rule of thumb: the class should match or be stricter than your use. A face towel certified only in class III is not covered for skin contact; class I also satisfies class II requirements.

How to verify a certificate in Label Check — step by step
Action Step
Get the number. Ask the supplier for the certificate number and the name of the testing institute, or scan the QR code on the label.

Open Label Check. Go to oeko-tex.com and use the Label Check tool.

Enter the number. The result should show the certificate as valid, with the holder, institute and validity date.

Match the holder. Is it your supplier, or its fabric supplier? Both can be legitimate, but you must know which articles it covers.

Read the scope. Check that the certified articles include your product or the materials in it.

Check the class and expiry. Class II or I for skin-contact products; note the expiry date and ask for the renewed certificate before it lapses.

Red flags
No number. A logo on a website without a certificate number cannot be verified.
Expired or not found in Label Check. Treat as not certified until the supplier provides a valid number.
Scope does not include your product. A certificate for yarn or one fabric does not automatically cover a different finished product.
Wrong class. Class III or IV for products used on skin.
“OEKO-TEX certified factory.” STANDARD 100 certifies products; ask which scheme and which articles are meant.
Edited PDFs. Always verify online rather than trusting a document image.

Using the OEKO-TEX label on your own packs
Brands may show the STANDARD 100 label only for articles covered by a valid certificate, with the certificate number and institute shown as OEKO-TEX requires.

If you are not the certificate holder, check with your supplier and the issuing institute how the label may be used on your packaging. Do not combine the label with claims such as “organic” or “eco-friendly” — it is a test for harmful substances, not an environmental certificate. See our guide on environmental claims.

Q2How long is an OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certificate valid?+
One year. The holder renews it with new testing; ask for the renewed number before the expiry date.
Q3Which product class do face towels need?+
Product class II covers articles used with direct skin contact; class I (babies) is stricter and also acceptable.
Q4Can a factory be OEKO-TEX certified?+
Not under STANDARD 100, which certifies products. Facilities can be certified under OEKO-TEX STeP.
Q5Does OEKO-TEX mean a towel is eco-friendly?+
No. STANDARD 100 tests for harmful substances; it is not an environmental or sustainability certification.
